| | A Very British Coup [1988] [DVD]
This political drama made a strong impression on me when I first saw it on TV. The script and acting are very good. The central character played by Ray McAnnally is very engaging, humourous and resolute. His enemies are equally determined. The story quite gripping and not beyond the bounds of possibility. I was very pleased to obtain this DVD so that I could watch it again.
| | | HAD LOOKED FORWARD TO GETTING THIS DVD FOR A LONG TIME, UNFORTUNATELY WHEN IT ARRIVES IT IS ONLY PLAYBLE IN AREA 4 (CANADA ?) THER WAS NO WARNING FROM EITHER AMAZON OR THERE SUPPLIERA Very British Coup [1988] [DVD]
| | | Although made in 1988 this is still a gripping story. Why can't we have this choice for a Prime Minister now or is there nobody of integrity and dedication to the wider community available any more. Have we all really become too corrupt and self-centred to worry about the betterment of the country as a whole? If you haven't seen it, get it and ask yourself; 'Would I vote for this chap if he were to stand now?'. Get it, you won't be disappointed.
| | | It is amazing that "A very British Coup" is now nearly 22 years old. It seems, or could seem, that this is just as fresh today as when it was first shown on television.
Sadly it is now very old fashioned as politicians like Harry Perkins are not around anymore, as they have been made obsolete by the current crop of manufactured political clones who are controlled by spin doctors, PR advisers, and big business.
What hasn't changed of course is that any reactionary government in the UK would be rapidly brought to heel by the establishment and the security services, and as a bona fide left winger I find that quite appalling.
| | A truly excellent political drama | |
| | A bit of a slow burner but one that never lets up. The dialogue is good and the tone is dark and sinister through out. Harry Perkins, wonderfully played by Ray McNally, is the affable newly elected far left prime minister of the UK who aims to take the country in a new direction almost oblivious to the shadowy forces at work to un seat him. British political drama at its best, sharp and intelligent. This is well worth a look
